Chapter 3 – Installing and managing WordPress Plugin.
Plugins in WordPress are small application which is used to add and extend the functionality of the website. It is these plugins which has transformed WordPress from just being a CMS to software that can be used to create a fully featured website.
WordPress is open source CMS software so there are many people who contribute to it. This has resulted in a large number of plugins available for various purposes. Any feature you think of to add in your website there is quite a possibility that there would be a plugin to add that feature. So this helps even a non coder to build a website with almost all feature he wants.
The plugin is added advantage of creating a website in WordPress and the best part of it is you may get the required plugin for free.
To check the already installed plugin you need to click on click on “Plugins” and then “Installed Plugins”.
By default, there are two plugins which are already installed “Askimet” and “Hello Dolly”.
Now lets us see how to install the plugin on a WordPress website.
To install the plugin you need to login to WordPress admin panel. On the dashboard, click on “Plugins” and then “Add New”.
You can also to to Installed Plugin page and click on “Add New” button present on top of the page to install a plugin.
This will take you Plugin repository where you can search for all the free plugins. You can find the same plugin on WordPress website as well. Once you find the plugin you want, you can click on “Install Now” button to install the plugin.
To install the plugin which are not part of WordPress repository, or the plugin which you get from somewhere else you first need to download the plugin file and then you need to click on “Upload Plugin” button on top of the page to upload and install it.
Once the plugin is installed it needs to be activated. To activate the plugin you can click on “Activate Plugin” link which comes after install or choose to activate it later.
To activate the plugin later you need to go to Installed Plugin page and then click on “Activate” link below the Plugin name.
Once activated you are ready to use this plugin.
