I am sure many would have wondered what does Account, Property and View mean here. So let us uncover the mystery here and understand the concept of these terms in terms of Google analytics.

This is a hierarchical structure designed by Google to collect and represent data.

Account : Account sits at the top of this hierarchical structure. To access any data from Google analytics the first thing you need is accounts. It is through an account that you gather analytics data for different properties.

Properties: Properties are website and app which you add to an account for which you want to collect data. Every property in an account is represented by unique tracking code which you add to your website or app to collect data from it. An account can have multiple website or app  or to say an account can have multiple properties. However, it does not have to be like that you can create one account for one property depending on how you want to manage data.

Views: It is set of data visible for a particular property. When a property is created, a default view is created for a website or app which contains all data. You can create a new “View” to target specific data using filters. This helps in generating reports for a specific purpose or analysis. For example, if you are running a sales campaign you can create view to track data specific to conversion rate and so on.

When you create, a view data to the view will be available from that day onwards. If you need sets of data before the creation of View you need to extract it from the default view.

Like the webmaster account, you can add users to your analytics account so that some can take care of data and reports for you.

Organizing data in such hierarchical structure help not only to sort data, but also allows you to give access to users to look after your report at various levels with various access.

You can add a user to manage your reports at various levels. You can add a user to Account so that he can see an generate reports for all your property and view. You can add users at property level so that he can view data and generate reports for that property only. You can add a user to a view so that he can view the data of a particular view of particular property.
